You will now go into your second year work which will begin with music videos. This is the one unit where we expect you to consistently watch and review music videos. Gain as much inspiration and knowledge from every video you watch. Your end goal will be to design and create your own music video. the creative outlook is up to you on this one.

Use the analysis sheet above and analyse music videos of your choice. Or use the list above which has a variety of examples. The key element to this is understanding conventions but also breaking down music videos. Can you decipher a music video and tell me:
- How many shots to a scene
- How many locations
- Style of the music video
- Whats the overall purpose
- What effects have they used etc.

P1 - Music video analysis
Individually choose a UK and US music video to analyse. start to make a PPT on each music video that covers the P1 opening criteria. we will look at just the first 4 parts of P1. Link the PURPOSE, CONTENT & STYLE, CONTENT and MEANING to two music videos of your choice.
The slides must cover the following and have examples from the music videos to explain your points.
a) Purpose – Primary and secondary
(entertain, educate, promote)
b) Form and style – Live action,
animation, live actors / Narrative,
Performance etc. Colours, editing style, effects etc.
c) Content – Close ups, tracking,
narrative/story, mise en scene
d) Meaning – Intertextual reference, Visuals linked with
lyrics, connections through effects/lyrics
e) Genre - What it is and what are the identifiers?
